The Colca Canyon, twice as deep as the Grand Canyon, is a must-visit for any nature lover visiting Peru. This itinerary is designed for a comfortable 2-day exploration of the canyon, with plenty of opportunities to see the majestic Andean Condor and soak up the beauty of the Andes.

Day 1: Arequipa to Chivay and Colca Valley Exploration

• 7:30am: Start your day with an early morning pick-up from your hotel in Arequipa. You'll head out towards the Colca Valley, stopping at various points along the way to admire the stunning scenery.

• Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Reserve: Spot vicuñas, llamas, and alpacas grazing on the high plains. This reserve protects a fragile ecosystem and is home to a variety of wildlife.

• Patapampa - Mirador de los Andes: Enjoy breathtaking views of the volcanoes that line the valley, including the Misti, Chachani, and Sabancaya. 

• Chivay: Arrive in Chivay, a charming village located at the heart of the Colca Valley for the deliciuos lunch. Check into your hotel and enjoy some free time to relax or explore the village. In the afternoon, head to the hot springs (optional) for a relaxing soak in the natural thermal pools.

Day 2: Cruz del Condor and Return to Arequipa

• Early Morning: Rise early for the highlight of the trip - a visit to the Cruz del Condor (Condor's Cross). This viewpoint offers stunning views of the canyon and is a great place to spot the Andean Condor, the world's largest flying bird. The condors are most active in the early morning as they take advantage of the rising thermals to soar effortlessly through the canyon.

• Traditional Villages: On the way back to Chivay so Arequipa, stop at some traditional villages in the Colca Valley, such as Maca and Yanque. Here, you can learn about the local culture and way of life.

• Arequipa: Arrive back in Arequipa in the afternoon, with plenty of time to explore the city or relax before your onward travels.
